What is my DEXA scan T-score and what does it mean?
A DEXA scan T-score is a numerical comparison of your bone mineral density against the peak bone mass of a healthy 30-year-old. A score of -1.0 or higher is normal, -1.1 to -2.4 indicates osteopenia, and -2.5 or lower confirms a diagnosis of osteoporosis.

What to tell your doctor

What is a waste of time
Menopause teas and herbal 'bone blends' are a scam. There is no tea on earth that can replace the systemic signaling of estrogen. These products are marketed to your fear and do nothing to stop the cellular activity of osteoclasts.
Alkaline diets are useless. The theory that 'acidic' foods leach calcium from your bones is a myth. Your body regulates its own pH tightly. Changing your diet to be 'alkaline' will not change your T-score or save your hips.

Optimize your sleep environment. Bone repair happens during deep sleep. Keep your bedroom at 65°F / 18°C. A cool room reduces night sweats and helps you stay in the restorative sleep stages where growth hormones are released.
Stop smoking and limit alcohol. Both are direct toxins to bone-building cells. Smoking decreases blood flow to bones and interferes with estrogen metabolism. Alcohol increases cortisol, which further breaks down bone tissue. These are immediate lifestyle corrections.
Wear stable, flat shoes. High heels or flimsy flip-flops increase your instability. Choose footwear with a wide toe box and a firm sole. This gives you a better 'ground feel' and keeps your center of gravity stable during daily movement.
